Julie Hesmondhalgh said her Coronation Street role as transgender character Hayley Cropper, played from 1998 to 2014, remained important because it got people talking, and called it upsetting that trans rights have gone backwards. The Celebrity Traitors star, banished in episode four as a Faithful, said the Hayley and Roy love story became a key storyline almost by accident.
